The photon wavefunction, a covariant formulation: From Majorana to the second quantization

Abstract

We write down a fully covariant formulation for the photon wavefunction and show, in the simplest case of a single free photon, the equivalence with QED formulation of the electromagnetic field in vacuum. This result is extended to an N-photon wavefunction, and quantum states such as entanglement and orbital angular momentum are described as properties of a multi-photon equation.
