Ionospheric Calibration for LOFAR

Abstract

One of the challenges in the design of the LOFAR radio telescope is the calibration of the ionosphere, which can change within minutes and can vary over the field of view. To reduce the number of unknown parameters a specific model of the ionospheric corruptions is needed. In this presentation we will discuss LOFAR self-calibration using the Measurement Equation in general and ionospheric calibration in more detail.
