Abstract
This presentation will overview two applications of tripole antennas in
wireless communications. The first application concerns
Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) communications with respect to
antenna systems with polarization flexibility.
The essence of MIMO communication is that information theory tells us
that a communication system based on several parallel channels may have
a significantly higher capacity in bits/sec/Hz as compared to a system
with one channel only, even though the total transmitted power is the
same. The other application is concerned with signal separation and
interference reduction based on polarization diversity. An important
concept in this respect is the linear dependence of the antenna array
steering vectors.
