AbstractThe acronym LOIS can be intrepreted in a number of different ways, for instance "LOFAR Outrigger In Sweden", "LOFAR Imaging System", "LOFAR Interplanetary Scatterer", "Lots Of Interesting Science", ... (add your own favourite). LOIS will be a Scandinavian contribution which adds atmospheric, ionospheric, solar and planetary space physics capability to LOFAR by providing a radar subfacilty, including a complete, first-class infrastructure, in southern Sweden.
The various steps which have led to the LOIS idea and how it has
been presented and received within the community will be presented.
The next possible steps will be outlined.
